About the Program
According to A Profile of Canadian Chronic Care Providers, volunteer caregivers provide more than 80 percent of the care needed by individuals with long-term conditions, and contribute more than $5 billion of unpaid labour annually to the health care system.
Annual Caregiver Appreciation Award
Each year, nominations are accepted for volunteer caregivers who devote their time, energy, and commitment to seniors needing care, whether at home or in institutional settings. Nominations are accepted all year round and the deadline for nominations each year is December 31.
Eligibility criteria
- Has lived in the Ottawa region for most of the past year;
- Is caring for a senior, i.e., person 65 years of age or more, during the year of the nomination.
- Is not paid or provided any form of financial compensation for the provision of such care; and
- Demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of life of a senior, regardless on whether the care recipient resides in an institution or a private home.
All nominees receive recognition of their volunteer efforts as well as two (2) tickets to our Setting the Path to Prosperity fundraising event ($150 value). Additional prizes are also provided by our sponsors.
